My dad's new 3204 is blowing one or both 20 amp fuses. The tractor is new and under warranty but I think the problem may be hard to track down. I was hoping the dealer has a tech bulletin on this problem or had seen it before. Anyone else had any fuse problems. I know the ignition fuse was blowing, not sure what the second fuse is for.

Curt, check around under the hood for any wiring close to the engine. I know on my new 2544 (similar under the hood to the 3204), I had to re-route, bundle, zip-tie and organize some of the wiring or it would have burnt against the HOT engine for sure. I still need to address the headlight wiring better, I dont see how anything up there will hold up long term to the heat /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.
G/luck

Hey Joel,
I think the dealer is picking up the tractor today. I'll post again when they find the cause of the problem. If the tractor was out of warranty, I'd probably try a 10% bump in the fuse rating. Dont know if they make anything between a 20 and 25 though...
On my 5252, I noticed yesterday when I checked the oil, they had used a a stick on type cable tie to attach the headlight harness to the hood. It is of coarse hanging free. I need to take a closer look at that now that you've reminded me of the heat issues. Overall, I love the 5252, it's a Cadillac to mow with.

The Cub dealer delivered my dad's Cub on Saturday. They had it for the fuse problem. When they delivered it, it wouldn't start, blown fuse. put the spare in, blown again. It's back to the dealer for another round of troubleshooting.

I would really be upset with the dealer in this case...its just plain sloppy lazy workmanship, to not even double check if it starts, and i would question if they even bother to touch it....
Totally unacceptable, I would be looking elsewhere for service....no excuses for that except incompetence..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Sorry to hear about your troubles....the 3204 is a very robust unit, never heard of any electrical problems like yours....
keep us updated

Curt: Go back to page 4, this forum. Check my post dated 5/16/2005. This is the same problem I found on the 2544. Also added a double stack heat shield to the horizontal exhaust pipe to stop overheat to right headlight. Jerry

The wires are routed better on the 3000 series, and its not really an issue with them. However its not to say its not causing a problem on your machine, somewhere somehow.

My dad called tonight and said the 3204 smelled really hot and he odor seemed electrical. He said it was also smoking significantly from the exhaust with an oil smell. We checked the oil and it was overfilled slightly.
It didn't make a difference turning off the PTO. He parked it and called me and then discovered it had started started leaking gas again also.
Anyone had any experience trying to get the dealer to just replace a tractor due to repeated service issues?
This will be the fourth shop visit since April.

Is this after the electrical problem from just a few days ago?
Can your dealer be that bad? they drop off a machine that never started, and probably they didnt work on it to begin with...
Now more electrical problems? along with gas leaking?
How old is the machine? did you buy it new? is it under warranty? How upset are you so far? you might want to raise the noise level....

It was brand new in April, it probably has 20 hours on it. It is under warranty until 4/07. I'm beginning to suspect something is really wrong with the service department there. It was in the first time for a gas leak and the low fuel light not working, the second and third for the fuse blowing problem and now a gas leak and electrical problems.
Thi is one of the two new tractors I bought at their auction in April, but they were sold as new with full two year warranty.
My dads going to stop tomorrow and talk with them. He's in his 80's but knows bad service when he sees it won't hold back when he talks with them.
