Spider-Man spin-off: Daisy Ridley 'would love to' play Spider-Woman (2024)

Daisy Ridley says The Rise of Skywalker is a 'satisfying' ending

IconicMarvel superhero Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) is one of the tentpole characters in the ongoing MCU. His upcoming film, Spider-Man 3, is reportedly introducing previous film versions of the character with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Spidey may be looking at the arrival of another friend in the mix, however, in the form of Spider-Woman / Jessica Drew.

Star Wars actor Ridley is rumoured to be taking on the role of Spider-Woman in an upcoming film and the star has addressed this in an interview.

Author Sariah Wilson recently spoke to Ridley and posted snippets of the chat on her Twitter account.

Sariah told her followers: “What so many of you have been waiting for: I asked Daisy Ridley [if] she'd heard the Spider-Woman rumours. She said no and asked what they were.

“I explained it to her and she said: ‘OMG, I would love to play Spider-Woman. But is it more of like an extended SpiderVerse thing?’

“I told her about it possibly being a new Marvel Universe and asked if she'd do a franchise like that.

Sariah continued: “She said: ‘Oh, yeah, for sure!’ She talked about friends being involved with franchises and how much content there is these days with streaming services.

“She said she loved Into the SpiderVerse and has been loving WandaVision. So yes, she would happily dip her toes into another franchise.”

Sariah clarified: “But she knew nothing about the Spider-Woman rumours. She seemed excited at the prospect, but I had to explain the whole thing to her. She hadn't heard of it at all.”

Although the actor claims she didn’t know about the prospect of her taking the Spider-Woman role, her enthusiasm for the character has no doubt been noted by Marvel.

Ridley is already under the Disney umbrella from starring in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Rey, which came to an end with The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

Her arrival as the star in a Marvel property would make her one of the best-known actors in Hollywood.

Talks of a Spider-Woman film have been kept under wraps in the past few years.

There has been no official word from Marvel yet, but Booksmart director Olivia Wilde has been confirmed to helm an upcoming female-led Marvel movie, a project which many believe is Spider-Woman’s debut.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about joining the Marvel family, Wilde previously announced: “All I can say is that this is by far the most exciting thing that's happened to me because not only do I get to tell a story that… listen to me, trying to avoid Kevin Feige's pellet gun.”

Wilde continued: “We are seeing this incredible influx of female directors and storytellers getting to take hold of this genre, this superhero space, and infuse it with their own perspective.”

The 36-year-old continued: “Not only do I get to the story as a director but I get to develop the story and that was what made it so incredible for me.

“I get to do it with... [Booksmart producer] Katie Silverman, who, she and I love to do all sorts of things together but our love started with Booksmart.”

Wilde added: “To know that we went from telling a story about female friendship in high school to this other stratosphere now is just super exciting.”
