12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (1)

To truly master the art of making authentic Mexican food, you must know how to make Mexican salsa.

We are talking from scratch. None of that jarred stuff.

One salsa can make several dishes. No dance lessons involved. 😉 Feel the beat. Get the heat.

They can be as hot or as mild as you want.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (2)

Tomato Molcajete Salsa
Before blenders, there were molcajetes (or Mexican mortar and pestles).

No electricity required. They were not solar-powered. They were human-powered.

Tomato Molcajete Salsa makes a delicious and packed with flavor topping on all your favorite Mexican dishes.

Another idea: cook with it! Add a couple of tablespoons of salsa to a foil package with fish. Bake and yum!

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (3)

Chile de Arbol Salsa
This spicy Chile de Arbol Salsa is the perfect addition to taquitos, tacos, and more.

Add just a bit of this salsa to your food. Who knew such a tiny chile could be so powerful!

It has got a flavorful kick that I know you will love.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (4)

Salsa Borracha
Want a Mexican salsa that will blow your mind? Salsa Borracha (or Drunk Salsa) is it!

Try it with carne asada tacos or grilled meats.

This Mexican recipe is made with beer, but no worries. The alcohol burns off, leaving a rich and deep flavor.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (5)

Chipotle Salsa
If you like a good and hot Mexican salsa, you’re going to love Chipotle Salsa.

It is yummy and flavorful as an appetizer, or you can use it as the star ingredient.

Here’s an idea: Sear chicken and let it finish cooking in the salsa. Yum!

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (6)

Hatch Chile Salsa Verde
Hatch a batch of this salsa! You can’t go wrong with Roasted Hatch Chile Salsa Verde.

It goes great on tacos or serve as an appetizer on game day. Mild and slightly tangy. Yes please!

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (7)

Avocado Mango Salsa
Don’t like it hot but you still want a mild kick? Check out this tropical treat – Avocado Mango Salsa.

Sweet and mildly spicy. Eat it with chips or use it as a topping on your grilled chicken or baked fish. It is absolutely delicious!

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (8)

Roasted Salsa Verde Recipe
Here is an easy Mexican salsa to make at home. Roasted Tomatillo Salsa Verde only takes a few ingredients.

Everything goes under the broiler, blend, and you get a robust and tasty appetizer that’s full of amazing flavors.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (9)

Roasted Tomato Salsa
I love easy recipes! Roasted Tomato Salsa is easy Mexican food at its best.

Make this recipe, and you will never again think Mexican food is hard. I even go so far as to make two batches – eat one and freeze the other for another time.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (10)

Salsa de Aguacate
Don’t confuse this with guacamole. Salsa de Aguacate, or Avocado Salsa, is a spicy topping made with cooked tomatillos and ripe avocados.

Rich and creamy, and totally dreamy. It is insanely good! Goes great on classic ground beef taquitos and carne asada street tacos.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (11)

Mexican Red Salsa
You know at Mexican restaurants how they serve you chips and salsa? Chances are they are serving you this!

It does not come any more authentic than this basic Mexican Red Salsa. Better red than dead. lol!

For this recipe, I put it in a blender. That is why it is smooth. If you like it chunkier, use the pulse feature on the blender, or even better, use a molcajete (mortar and pestle).

By itself with a bag of chips or on top of tacos, this salsa recipe is a keeper.

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (12)

Salsa de Piña
Get this Mexican salsa on the table in minutes!

Use a can of store-bought pineapple chunks to make Salsa de Piña, or Pineapple Salsa. Mildly and sweet, a fruity treat.

An easy, peasy and delicious salsa just about anyone can make at home. Goes great on top of baked fish or grilled chicken. Hope you enjoy!

12 Mexican Salsa Recipes (13)

Creamy Guacamole
Rock the Guac at your next fiesta. Creamy Guacamole and chips is a must at any party. Don’t you agree?

Be sure to make plenty of it too. It is usually gone minutes after it hits the table… or is that just at my house?

And this is why we all need friends with avocado trees. LOL!

🌶️ How long does salsa last?

  • In an airtight container, unopened, and continuously refrigerated, these types of salsas can last 10 days.
  • If the container has been opened, refrigerated, and cover. Store-bought salsas can last longer. Check expiration date on the package.
  • For homemade salsa, cover and refrigerated. This type of salsa can last between 4-6 days. Add a splash of white distilled vinegar to your salsa, this makes them last longer.
  • Store-bought salsa jars have different preservatives. They might last longer than the homemade kind. Always check the expiration date before consuming.

🫙How to Freeze Salsa:

  • Yes, you can freeze homemade salsa! However, the type of container used to freeze salsa is important.
  • Make sure to use freezer bags and try to remove any excess air. I do NOT recommend using a tupperware plastic container because of the extra air.
  • I also recommend freezing the salsas in small packages as opposed to one large package.
  • Homemade salsa will last 4-5 months in the freezer.

Hope you enjoyed this list of Mexican Salsas. Give one or all of them a try with chips or on top of some yummy tacos.
